On Wednesday Oueroa School went to Porangahau School to see Mary Kippenberger. We had lunch, went for a play and went for a swim. When we first got in it was cold but you got warm.
It was time to see Mary Kippenberger.
The first play was Cinderella. I was the Ugly sister. I had to put on a long, browny coloured wig and a skirt with a hoop in it.People laughed their heads off.
The second play was funny because the elephants said "We don't know, you have to ask the toikey." in a very funny way.
It was so hot. Mangaorapa came too.Just to let you know, it was a long day but it was fun.

Now there's some very Ugly Sisters.

I jumped on the bus on the 25^th of August. I looked around.

“Some new faces,” I thought. But I looked again. It was some old faces- my old friends Turanga and Martin were on the bus .

“But why?” I thought to myself. We got to school.

“I remember,” I said loudly, “They are here to plant their plants.” The plants were a Karamu and a Kowhai. Martin planted the Karamu and Turanga planted the Kowhai. They are both now year nines at college. We have a tradition at Oueroa School, every year 8 gets a plant from the shadehouse, which we have grown from seed with help from DOC educators. So Martin and Turanga planted their plants and jumped back onto the bus because they had college work to do.

Waiting, waiting, boring waiting.

Go the All Blacks - Yay!

On Friday the 2nd September at Russell Park there was just a sea of people. Do you know why? BECAUSE THE ALL BLACKS CAME TO TOWN! Oueroa School went to see them. There were three All Blacks. They were Kevin Mealamu, John Afoa and Zac Guilford. We saw lots of people we knew like children who been to our school. Two people were chosen to go up and get a poster signed by the All Blacks. Can you believe who went up? ME AND ABI ! Going to see them was like a plane going through heaps of hard clouds. Finally after a what seemed like a million years we got there. A man was yelling out the schools and then he said “Any other schools that haven’t got their poster?. “Excuse Me, but we haven’t," I said. The All Blacks signed the poster and then we had to go all the way back through the waves of people to where the rest of the school was. Then it was time to leave. I had a fantastic day seeing the All Blacks. I hope they do well in the Rugby World Cup.

Snow

Feathery dots gently touching the ground. It was exciting! We made snowmen and played snow fights. Everyone else was excited as well. We had lots of fun. When snow came it was my first time seeing snow. This was at school.

We started school late. Mrs Middleton rang us up saying that we can stay at home until 10 o’clock just in case we slipped and crashed. There was lots of snow in the garden box. It was so beautiful when I saw it.

Snow was all over the hills. It was like baking soda.

We are all wearing two pairs of socks each.

I jumped for joy as the fairy like pillows floated down from the dark sky above. Mum and Dad were making a lot of commotion and I clambered out of bed to tell them to be a little more quiet. As I opened my mouth to speak Mum beast me to it and announced that it was snowing.
I was astounded. It had never snowed at our house and settled. I was sent back to bed but for ages after I was awake. I was way to excited to go to sleep.
I strained my ears to hear the sound of the snow pat patting on the roof but as we all know, it is nearly impossible to hear snow falling. But it is possible to see it.
I must have drifted off to sleep because the next thing I knew it was morning and as I peered out of my curtains, I almost squealed for joy. The whole lawn had got a good dusting of snow. I could not wait to run out there and play in the icy snow.

It has not snowed in Waipukurau for 11` years now. True fact.

We arrived at school and our school was covered in snow like white baking powder all over the hills. The snow was fluffy like the clouds had fallen from the sky and heavily drops dropped gently onto the ground

We had a huge snowball fight and some of us made snowmen.

I was helping and then R annoyed my and we started another snowball fight. The bell then rang.

“Oh no” everybody kept saying “can we go to lunch.”

We got to lunch and all the snow had melted.

We got onto the bus and it started to snow again. ”Oh no” everybody yelled.

We went to school the next day and the school was covered in snow.

Composting day

Yay it’s compost day. Ms Roberts from Zero Waste education is here to show us how to compost.

First we checked out old compost and it was full of rubbish and weeds. We decided to start a new one.

First we found a new spot for the compost pile. Then we started. It was hard work but it paid off.

We put the hay on the ground in a square shape. Next was the horse poo. It was mashed up with paper and cardboard. I got to mix it. It was fun but disgusting.

Layer by layer it started to build up.

Then we did the worm farm and we had a lot of worms. We covered it up with wood. By LH

Zero Waste

Last week Mrs Roberts from Zero Waste education came to Oueroa School in Waipukurau in New Zealand to teach us about composting. We decided the old compost needed a makeover. First of all we gathered all of the ingredients. We got horse poo, straw, saw dust, dead plants, paper or cardboard and vacuum dust. These are all browns or carbon wastes.

Then we got the greens or nitrogen wastes. We got food scraps and weeds then we put it into layers it went green brown green brown. I cut the branches on a tree down with the secateurs. It was hard work. After that I took photos. It was fun. I didn’t want to place anything down on the compost heap because I didn’t know what to do. The last layer was carpet.

Finally it was done. Then the bell rang. Ding ding! It was lunch time. Thank goodness. Yum yum, I was hungry.

On the 24th of august a lady from ZERO WASTE EDUCATION came.Her name was Ms Roberts.After she told us a bit about composting we got cooking. We showed her our old compost and she said "this isn't right"so we decided to make a new compost. We cleaned out our old compost and got the "ingredients" to make it.The ingredients were nitrogen wastes,carbon wastes,horse poo,vacuum dust,food scraps,branches, straw and dirt.We put in on layer by layer until the top layer .We found lots of worms and can you believe how much rubbish there was? In the end Ms Robert got a picture of me and the finished compost. I hope we have another day like this because this day was awesome!

A busy week

Our Planting Day.

On the 8th of August, on a beautiful

Monday, Oueroa School had a planting day.

The sun was blazing down on us as we prepared for the planting day.

I think that the school has been waiting for this day.

The whole entire school has grown these plants from seeds which brings back the history of our special little school (which means that when you come back you can say “I planted that tree ‘and “I grew that tree”.)

The school loves to get involved in planting trees and native plants.

After morning tea the school met by the steps where we were going to plant.

Megan, our planting coordinator, demonstrated how to plant Ringa Ringa Lilies. After the demonstration we got stuck into planting.

Gary brought his hole digger and he dug all of the holes before we got to planting the plants. So we saved alot of time not digging holes and we got more plants planted. We planted a lot of trees. We thanked Gary a lot.

We planted along by the top retaining wall so it looks tidy. We planted along the bank down to the bottom pine area. It made the school look more awesome than it already was. It took one whole day to finish the project

Thanks to Kim, we got cupcakes, juice and chocolate after all of our hard work.

Onga onga 7s

ONGA ONGA 7S

The ballons before they were released.

Yesterday (which was the 10^th of August) was Onga 7s. We had a cracker of a day running round and kicking the ball although we lost 2 games and won the rest. Year 4s up to year 7s at Oueroa School had a really cool day. It was sunny and hot. My favourite part of the day was when a few of the Onga School kids released some balloons into the air. During the parade we kept spying them getting higher and higher. BOOOOOOOOOM!!!

Everyone jumped; some people knew what it was. My friend told me that it was the cannon that we saw and that an army man himself had fired it. Sherwood roared “booooo!” as the announcer cried “and we pointed the cannon towards Sherwood!”

After that we marched around the field and then each team charged to the grounds where they would be playing. All of the junior soccer teams jogged or ran to field number 3.

Talking tactics.

Our school, which is Oueroa, was hardly noticed among the other 18 schools. Our school was really close to going into the finals if only we had won 1 more game but it doesn’t matter because it was all about having fun: that is the rule Oueroa follows. Most of the seniors at our school like soccer, so do our junior kids. In our first game (which was at 10.30) we faced Omakere and lost 0-1 and we played again at 10.50 and lost to Waipawa 0-1 then again we played at 11.20 and won 2-0 then again at12.00 we won again 1-0 and again at12.30 we won 3-2.

A keen team

We had an awesome time and enjoyed the food as well as the sports. At the end all the schools came together for the prize giving and all the schools that didn’t get a cup or prize at least got a well-done pack, as I call them. They are filled with 4 or so posters and loads of milky-bars and a few other odds and ends

Introduction to Oueroa School

Hello I'm a senior student from Oueroa school.
Our school has a school cat called Riley. A tabby cat that was found under the senior classroom. We had to trap her. That was harder than we thought. Her name is Riley because she's wiley Riley.
We feed her morning and night as part of our duties. We get paid to do the cleaning of the school for our school camp at the end of the year. On our camps we go together as a school not a class because there are only 15 of us.

We have native area where year 8 students plant a native plant when they leave for college. The plants are grown in one of our two shadehouses from seeds that we collect ourselves.

Riley, our kitten, gets lots of cuddles.

Oueroa School is a fun place to come to and to learn at.
